A series of five MBT webinars are run annually. Each webinar covers an aspect of MBT clinical practice. The topics that we cover are:

Talking about mentalizing: Introducing mentalizing- How to explain mentalizing to clients (hint: it depends). Presenting mentalizing as a capacity to build upon.

Assessing mentalizing: Assessing mentalizing in initial sessions-mentalizing assessment questions. What we are looking for? -noticing areas where mentalizing is difficult, goes offline or is out of balance.

Mentalizing case formulation: The function of the case formulation, what it looks like, clinical examples. How to work with client to develop a collaborative focus for the work.

Attachment, mentalizing and therapy: Attachment & mentalizing. Attachment processes within therapy- fear and the development, maintenance and ongoing distortion of attachment relationships.

Relational mentalizing & affect focus: Indications for an affect focus or for relational mentalizing: clinical examples. How it helps. Discovering process and finding the words.

These five clinically focussed webinars will provide a refresher for therapists who are implementing MBT and will focus on enhancing the application and understanding of key MBT interventions. Particular attention will be given to areas raised by therapists in MBT supervision. Our aim is to support therapists to feel more confident about stimulating mentalizing and maintaining a mentalizing stance. Participation in these webinars will provide the opportunity to explore these clinical issues more deeply within the framework of a mentalizing supervision. These 90 minute webinars will share clinical examples and theoretical content to illustrate MBT principles. The format of each webinar will involve some presentation of material and some interactive discussion around the content. Participants will have an opportunity to interact with MBT accredited supervisors around these selected topics.
